The Return of Ceylon Coffee: A Proud Legacy Revived
When people think of Sri Lanka, Ceylon Tea often comes to mind first. Yet, long before tea earned its world-renowned status, the island was celebrated as a leading coffee producer. Known as Ceylon Coffee, it dominated global trade in the 18th and 19th centuries. Coffee was first introduced to Sri Lanka by the Dutch and later expanded under British rule. By the mid-1800s, the island had risen to become the third-largest coffee exporter in the world. This golden era, however, came to an abrupt end when the devastating coffee leaf rust disease wiped out plantations, forcing many farmers to abandon coffee in favor of tea.
Today, Ceylon Coffee is making a powerful comeback, and at G.K.U.C. Spicy Port (Pvt) Ltd, we are proud to be part of this exciting revival. As a trusted producer of Ceylon raw coffee beans, roasted beans, coffee powder, and premium cocoa products, we are committed to preserving tradition while delivering modern excellence. Our plantations are located in Sri Lanka’s central highlands, Kandy, Kotmale, and Nuwara Eliya where fertile soil, abundant sunshine, and cool mountain air create the perfect environment for world-class coffee cultivation. Our carefully cultivated “Arabica” beans, grown in cooler highland climates, offer a light and fruity flavor profile, while our “Robusta” beans, nurtured in lower altitudes, deliver boldness and strength. To complement this, our expertly crafted cocoa products add depth, richness, and indulgence – together creating a truly refined coffee experience.
At GKUC Spicy Port (Pvt) Ltd, our vision goes beyond producing world-class coffee and cocoa. We are deeply committed to sustainability, empowering local farming communities, and sharing the authentic taste of Sri Lanka with the world. Every bean we produce is more than just a product. It is a symbol of resilience, passion, and heritage, carrying forward the proud legacy of “Ceylon Coffee” into the future.
